Jenni is altogether a rather plain looking girl, the kind to blend right into the crowds. Her skin is somewhat pale when she avoids daylight, but can tan nicely with low chances to burn. She's slightly on the short side, standing at 5'2" weighing a healthy 114 lbs. Her body is typical, not petite or toned though slightly trim. Since she walks or bikes nearly everywhere, her legs have become the strongest part of her body, which shows in her thick thigh muscles and distinguished calves. Her upper body on the other hand is fairly weak in comparison, if her life depended on her doing a genuine pull-up with no assistance she may just be screwed. She has a full bust, and a fuller buttocks from all the walking, but pays for it in having a less-than toned belly. She could hardly be considered fat, but the thin layer of pudge often makes her self conscious though most people don't even notice it.

She has very straight waist-length brown hair that more often than not just gets in the way. It's usually a darker brown, though if she spends extended time in the sun it tends to lighten to a dirty-blonde. She generally deals with it by braiding it or pulling it into a messy bun to keep it from tangling, however she's quite the opposite of an expert when it comes to pulling up hair and will have fits over it. If she leaves her hair braided or scrunched for too long it usually pulls out into pretty beach waves. Her eyes are large, brown-hazel with long lashes, and are generally the most common thing complimented about her. Her lips are full, and face somewhat round making her look perpetually young and innocent when paired with her puppy-dog eyes. Unfortunately for her, she suffers from something akin to "resting bitch face" where if she isn't actively expressing an emotion, she appears either sad or to want something. Her body is littered with random moles and freckles, most of which are on her arms and back, seeming to magically avoid her face somehow. Her hands, arms and legs are covered in micro-scars from being a general clutz, though they go mostly unnoticed.

For garments, Jenni will usually just wear whatever is comfortable while still feeling good about herself. Sadly she does not always take into consideration what is appropriate for the situation, so wearing a skirt while rock-climbing is a thing that may have happened once or twice before she learned to wear shorts underneath. Her favorite outfit is an off-white tank top with fitted bust that cinches below to allow the rest to flow freely, the straps crossed against her back with a paisley pattern decorating it. She generally pairs the shirt, which fits her almost like a small dress, with a simple pair of shorts and white strappy sandals. Since this is less than convenient in cooler weather, she often defaults to jeans and a fitted T-shirt, occasionally with halloween-like designs for the rest of the year.

Defining Traits: Large, puppy-dog eyes, and a syndrome akin to "resting bitch face".

Personality

Personality: Jenni is a very confusing person, a book difficult to read. When most people believe they know her, it is often only the pieces she has allowed them to get to know. She puts on a facade for most of the world, and they see her as a smart, modest young woman. She often acts kind, and many have claimed she is a friend, though the reverse cannot be said. She's a good ear, and can give pretty sound advice, but any concern portrayed is more than likely an act. It is with this type of act paired with strong conviction and excellent debate skills that allow her to manipulate people without them noticing.

She has dark thoughts relatively often, and they can even scare herself. It is possible that this is one of the reasons she shuts herself off to people. The only thing she never has active dark thoughts towards are non-humans. Any type of Pokémon or critter, she has an innocent understanding and care for, though her nightmares can take a dark side of their own. She tries to suppress this side of her, believing it makes her a bad person, but doing so she often feels empty inside with no emotions. She isn't sure what makes her this way, it's just the way she is, her own demons to deal with.

Since she suppresses everything, when she does experience strong emotions they usually scare her, and come out as sadness or anger. Without learning a proper outlet, she usually just has a nervous breakdown, and shuts down for a while. Being a partial empath, this can seriously drain her when she's around the wrong kind of people. The energy in the air can feed her or starve her depending, so she must be careful with the company she chooses to keep. She dreams of a day when she will rid herself of dark thoughts, and come to understand (or in her mind's eye, have at all) her own emotions.

Strengths: Fiercely competitive at times, it can be one of her few driving sources. She can be very argumentative, but is thankfully quite persuasive. She can often use this to manipulate others to her side, and make them think it was their own choice to boot. Fairly intelligent, higher than the average bear and able to read most people well. She seems to have a natural attraction when it comes to Pokémon, even many normally aggressive ones will often act mild-mannered toward her.

Weaknesses: Though she believes in picking your battles wisely, she will sometimes lose herself in the moment and fight to the bitter end over petty matters. She would throw herself in the middle of a street during rush-hour to save a defenseless critter. She finds it hard to open up to people, so has a hard time making good friends. She can't stand being around people who are either too far below her or believe they are above her. Easily frustrated, she doesn't handle well in certain situations.

Battle Style: Jenni tries her best to use her Pokémon to their own strengths and weaknesses. She tries to think of type match-ups, but understands that in some circumstances pure brute strength can still overpower a carefully chosen team. So she learns to adapt to situations to decide whether it is better to dodge, impair, or burn the foe into the ground. As such, she tries to build a diverse team, but can be easily caught up in aesthetics by adorable or cool-looking Pokémon.

Background

History: Jenni was born as the youngest child of three, which would make most people believe that she was the spoiled rotten one who got everything handed to her. Well, the opposite was true. Her siblings were so much older than her, they had already tapped the well dry. While her brother was able to start his Pokémon journey at 13, and her sister at 15, Jenni was stuck at home for much longer. Even so, her siblings still claim she is the spoiled one.

From a young age, Jenni showed a higher than average iq, and easily picked up reading and math skills. She was rather unmotivated though, so she didn't progress too much faster than her classmates...on paper, anyway. She was ordinary, painfully so in so many ways, with her shy demeanor invited teasing and bullying from others near her age. She learned early on that people are cruel, and the world isn't fair. Not for her, anyway. She trudged through her grade school years trying to cope with being an outcast while keeping her grades up, until her first anxiety attack. The stress from bottling everything up had taken its toll, and her grades went from A's to D's in the matter of a single semester. She finally felt relaxed, like she was able to breathe for the first time. From then on she decided she would only do enough work to pass, since everything else just didn't seem worth it.

Through the years, summer became her favorite season easily. Her family would take trips up to the Lake of Rage and camp out for a while at a time. There, Jenni was able to interact with local Pokémon and foreign trainer's Pokémon alike. There was always a large crowd once a year for a festival. It was mostly fishers there to show off their prized Magikarp, but all sorts would end up there for the festivities. It was there she met a boy around her age, who had the same kind of passion for Pokémon that she did. His name was Michael, and little did she know at the time, but he would be her first 'love'. They bonded over Pokémon and became good friends, and every year they would meet at the festival and play together.

As the years went on, Michael couldn't help but notice Jenni's affinity for Pokémon. They were drawn to her as much as she was drawn to them. They would go swimming in the lake, pretending to be a Gyarados when wild Magikarp and Psyduck would approach her without fear. It was then he proposed to her the idea of becoming a Pokémon trainer. Well, that's not all he proposed, but as an 8 year old girl, Jenni was far more interested in the prospect of Pokémon training. She begged her mother to enroll her in the Pokémon Academy, but they just didn't have the money. So, Michael who had been enrolled started copying down anything he could, and every year would give Jenni his notes, along side asking her out.

Through several rejections, Michael stayed persistent in both his quest to help Jenni learn about Pokémon, and to woo her. Eventually, Jenni succumbed to his innocent charms, and at the age of 12 accepted his proposal to "go steady". He was her first boyfriend, and an innocent love at that. Nothing really changed in their dynamic, just a title. But it felt nice to Jenni, something she didn't get often. Sadly, the two grew apart in the years to follow as family matters kept them away from each other during their usual interactions. When on her 15th year Michael didn't show up to the festival, Jenni knew it was over. It was hardly a heartbreak, but still disappointed her in a way. Still, he had given her the knowledge she needed to begin a Pokémon journey. Now she only needed the funds to do so!

Again she went to her mother, begging for the funds to start her own Pokémon journey. Again, she was denied. They were broke, her mother working paycheck to paycheck just to make ends meet. If she wanted to start her own journey she would need to fund herself. She saw a goal, and for once in her life felt the drive to go for it. She began working harder in school so that she could take on a part-time job on the side. It was a lot harder than she'd imagined, and took much longer to secure a job than she'd hoped, but at 17 she managed to get a job waitressing at a local diner. She finished school early that year, having earned extra credits through her hard work. Now she could focus on saving.

Well, she should have been able to save. But as the universe will do, it enjoyed royally screwing her over. First their car broke down, and Jenni had to pitch in to get it fixed. Then her mother fell ill, and her hours were cut at the diner. Life was a struggle for her, and the customers at the diner were often from out of town, and apparently out of manners. Between the stress at home and work, Jenni snapped. In the middle of her shift, she broke down crying, unable to do anything. Her managers sent her home that day, and failed to put her back on the schedule thereafter. Thankfully her mother recovered, but all Jenni's funds had been depleted again. Her dreams were crushed.

On her 20'th birthday, she received a card in the mail addressed to her from none other than Michael, her old boyfriend. She opened the letter, and as she read she began crying. It contained enough money to get her started on her journey, as well as all of his old notes from school. Though they had grown apart, he had saved her more than once. Now she goes to begin her journey, bidding her mother farewell as she leaves for New Bark Town.
