Physical Attributes

Height: 4' 10"
Weight: 127 pounds
Appearance: Randy Yates is short for his age. He has a very pale complexion and his round face had many freckles on his cheeks. He has shaggy, shoulder-length brown hair. Randy’s eyes are a sharp, crystal blue that are clearly visible through his shaggy bangs. He has a small nose shaped like a bulb, and his ears are small and slender. Randy is almost always see in his white button up shirt, partially tucked in, and khaki pants. To complete his attire he wears his blue and white sneakers and a pair of thick, round-framed glasses.
Defining Traits: Piercing blue eyes, and his large pair of glasses.

Personality

Personality:Randy has had so many bad moments with other humans around his age, that he is usually found away from the crowd and is often found with his nose in a book.  Randy is very anti-social and when he doesn’t have to speak to other he often won’t.  But whenever he sees a Pokemon, whether domestic or wild, he breaks out of his shell a bit and allows him to feel connected to other living beings.

When Martin died, Randy’s father had shut down for the longest time.  Mr. Yates was very cold and distant until about 4 or 5 years after is firstborn’s passing.  His mother also spent a lot of time trying to snap her husband out of this state of denial and grieving.  So for much of the crucial time of youth, Randy felt as if he was parentless,  unimportant, and a burden.  This caused Randy to imitate his brother as a way to get his parent’s to accept him even if just as a knock off version of his older brother.

As a way to cope with the troubles Randy was having at home, he spent a lot of time in the local Pokemon Gym watching and studying battle after battle.  This was a great use of Randy’s time, because it brought Randy joy when he watched the Pokemon interacting with each other and it allowed Randy to apply what he was learning in school to an actual battle.  And every person who left the gym had a smile on their face due to the incredible work of the local gym leader.  Seeing the smiles that a gym leader can bring to everyone around them was a very intriguing and irresistible idea to Randy.

Strengths: Very caring for all Pokemon, very intelligent, and always willing to help out those in need.
Weaknesses: Insecure about himself especially his height and intellect, he is not quick to open up to others and has few friends because of it, and he is critical on himself whenever things don’t go his way always thinking there was something he could have done better.
Battle Style: Randy is very concerned about the wellbeing of his Pokemon, so whenever they are injured he will use any items to help them out.  Randy never likes to leave the city without a way to cure status ailments for his Pokemon, whether man-made or natural.

Background

History: Randy was born in the South Western part of Oreburgh City, into a family of three: his mother, his father, and his older brother, Martin.

When Randy was 7, Martin came home from his journey ill with a terminal disease that killed him within weeks, Martin was 16. His passing was so sudden no one knew exactly what had happened. It took a huge toll on the entire Yates family, in particular his father. Mr. Yates was a trainer who decided to settle down and start a family before he had finished his Pokemon journey. When Martin was young, Mr. Yates spent most of his free time teaching and mentoring him until he was ready to go on his own journey. So when Martin came home one day sick, after just starting his journey, this severely worried Randy’s father. After Martin passed, Mr. Yates was devastated and never seemed to go back to his old, care free self again. Mrs. Yates was always busy worrying about her husband and trying to get him back to how he was before Martin’s sudden death, and could not spend very much time with her youngest son. Although Randy never really got to know his older brother, he always looked up to him. Perhaps the hardest thing for Randy was watching Martin’s Aron weep at how her trainer would not wake up, and Martin’s Aron was put back in her Pokéball and has been on the Yates’ mantle next to a picture of the eldest son. Martin was a young trainer and was very knowledgeable when it came to Pokemon, and this has made Randy strive for more knowledge to make him feel closer to his late brother.

Randy started in trainer school at age 10, and he felt it was easier to keep his head down and study, than to socialize with the other students at the school. Mr. and Mrs. Yates always told Randy to get out of the house and go outside and play with the other kids, but Randy felt judged when he was with other kids so he would proceed to make up a story of why he couldn’t go out that day. After a few months of trying to get Randy out of the house, his parents just decided they’d rather have him happy and less social than being upset and uncomfortable. One day when Randy was studying, a larger boy came up and called him: a nerd, useless, a waste of space, and the one that hit hardest was a 2nd rate version of his brother. This made Randy dislike human interaction even more, and cause him to stay home from school for two weeks. After he came back to school he was even more weary around his classmates, but one day his teacher came to class with a few Pokemon. This was the only time Randy looked up from his books, and he felt an immediate acceptance with the Pokemon, in particular the Magnemite, he hadn’t felt like this since before his brother’s passing.

Randy was always fascinated by all of the trainers that came to his hometown, just to challenge the gym leader, Roark. Randy would sit in on as many matches as Roark would let him. This always interested Randy, how one man was so important and so many looked up to him so he decided that one day he wanted to be just as well-known and respected as Roark. And every person who left the gym had a smile on their face due to the incredible work of the local gym leader. Seeing the smiles that a gym leader can bring to everyone around them was a very intriguing and irresistible idea to Randy. Randy recently graduated from his trainer school and decided he wanted to get his own Pokemon and travel around the world training to become a great gym leader just like his idol.

Defining Moments:
-His older brother’s death
-Being bullied in school
-His first experience with Pokemon
-Watching his first gym battle

Hmm, an interesting character here. It's quite good, and has the bare bones covered, but needs a little more detail.

For starters, please follow the template provided. It seems you've removed all the code for some reason. While this is not required, it just makes the app look pretty :3

Secondly, please elaborate on appearance and personality - a written description of appearance must be atleast 7 sentences, preferably more. What's unique about him? What would someone remember about them after their first encounter? Regarding personality, how did his brother's death affect him? How did he deal with the loss? Did he have any outlet besides reading and going to the Gym? Why does he feel the connection to Pokemon and gyms? What was his relationship with his parents after the initial period of mourning? The last part of his personality really belongs in his history. All of these don't need to be answered, they're just there to give you a direction. Remember, interactions make the person!

Again, history could be elaborated upon more too. Your character is a fully-fleshed, 3-dimensional being. How did Randy and Martin get along? Why didn't the rest of the family contract Martin's disease? How did he catch the disease? (unless it killed him too fast and can just be labelled a mysterious disease :v in which case, Randy can have another reason to go out adventuring (which he seems to dislike) to find the source of the illness and destroy it). What made Randy dislike people, and why did the bully label him so? (Honestly, I'm not sure about the second part. Why do bullies do anything at all?)

Hmm. That's about it. This character app is grammatically clear, so that's a big plus. A pretty good job! All in all, I'd say this character has real potential! Keep working hard! ;3
